Snowed-In Home Beauty Solutions

If the weather is keeping you from making a trip to the store, concoct the following fast fixes from the comfort of home:

Image: istockphotoAt-home solution: Acne Mask

  • 2 tablespoons dry white wine
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon mint leaves
  • ½ unpeeled cucumbers
  • 3 tablespoons chopped watercress

Combine all ingredients until smooth. Apply evenly to face. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse using warm water.

Remember to save a few spoonfuls when you’re almost at the bottom of that Chardonnay to use in this blemish busting mask!

At-home solution: Body Scrub

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • ¼ cup pureed mango
  • 1 cup olive oil

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until thoroughly combined. Apply to body in a circular motion avoiding the face. Rinse with warm water.

At-home solution: Chapstick

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon orange oil or extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon oil or extract

Stir ingredients together in a bowl until well mixed. Apply to lips as needed.

This tasty formula may sound more like a Mediterranean treat, but it packs a serious emollient punch!

At home solution: Gelatin Pore Strips

  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
  • 1 ½ tablespoons milk
  • 2 drops tea tree oil

Combine all ingredients and microwave for 10 seconds. Apply to congested areas avoiding eyes. Wait until mixture is firm (15-20 minutes) and peel off.

At home solution: Apple Dandruff Treatment and Rinse

Treatment ingredients: 1 cup fresh apple juice

Rinse: 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar, 1 cup water

Apply apple juice to hair from root to tips. Stir together vinegar and water and apply to hair. Rinse with warm water.

Extreme temperatures can cause our skin to flake off and the skin on our scalp is no exception. Use this healthy dandruff treatment in place of those store bought, chemical laden, flake-fighting products.

Have fun with these snowed-in solutions and keep your sleighs handy!

Lucie, sounds like a few great mixtures for the skin and lips. Very clever.

I don’t need the acne treatment, but I like the gelatin pore strips and the body scrub. With the winter weather we have been having, there is lots of dry skin happening. :)

I never knew white wine could be good for your skin. This is the first time I heard of using it in a facial mask. Will definitely share with friends.

    Thanks,
