Learning From the Looks of NYFW

I can’t say that I am disappointed that NYFW has come and gone.

It’s fun and exciting, but it also is exhausting! Still, it can inspire many of  us to start digging into fall fashion trends — but with so many to choose from, and so many bigger than life, it’s hard to know where to even begin!

Backstage at NYFW

Celebrity makeup artist  Brett Freedman has provided a bit of a how-to for us on some of the biggest trends we saw on the runway:

* For a bright red lip like the models showcased at Richard Chai, Vivienne Tam and Herve Leger, Brett says choosing the right texture and shade is key – fuller lips should opt for matte, thinner lips should go with satin or gloss. Brett has specific product pick for skin tones too!!
* Minimal looks with bold lips were big, as seen at Doo Ri’s show? Medium to full lipped gals do well with darker lips. Thinner lipped gals should shy away as the dark color could give them a stern, pursed look. Brett’s tip – use a stain first!
* Color is back and it’s being incorporated into the smoky eye as seen in Lela Rose and Tony Cohen’s collections. To update the classic smoky eye, try plum, navy or burgundy.
* A classic natural and fresh face like those seen at Marc Jacobs will always be in vogue. When your makeup is simple, the architecture of the face becomes very important – the brows, lashes and lip line.
