Jeannie Alcalar, a Texas woman who was featured on TLC’s kiddie-pageant show Toddlers and Tiaras, seems to be about as awesome a daycare provider as she is a parent. Jeannie raised plenty of ire as she pushed her five-year-old daughter Janene to win on the show. “I want all the attention,” she said in a segment. “Sometimes Janene and I fight for that, but in the long run I usually win.”
Well, Jeannie is sure getting plenty of attention now, even if it’s not the desirable kind. Jeannie, who had been running a daycare center, is being brought up on charges of child neglect and abuse. Jeannie Alcalar’s business was not shown on Toddlers and Tiaras. A source told TheGloss that TLC is involved with the prosecution in some way, but whether it was voluntary has not been confirmed. According to the Austin American Statesman:
There was also evidence that Alcalar put a cloth over the face of a 9-week-old crying infant and put Cheetos or Gerber snack crackers in the mouth of the same child, the affidavit said.
Those actions are also violations of a minimum standard and pose a choking hazard, according to the affidavit.
Evidence also showed that Alcalar threw food on the floor and allowed infants to eat it off the floor, the affidavit said.
The state plans to investigate additional allegations against Alcalar, including that she slapped an infant on the cheek so hard the infant cried, that she placed hot sauce mixed with water in infant bottles and that she also spoon-fed hot sauce to an infant, the affidavit said.
For the time being, it appears that Alcalar’s two children – in addition to Janene she has a young son – are still in her custody.
Here, you can watch Jeannie Alcalar in her glory. If you don’t want to watch the entire episode, the segment with the Alcalars begins at 2:30.
