Was This the Best Fashion Magazine Cover of 2009?

The Maggies, magazine awards for UK publications, had its annual awards ceremony last night. The overall winner for Best Cover and the winner of the best fashion category was this: Sienna Miller on the cover of GQ. I have to admit that I don’t really get why this was such a popular cover. Sienna looks great (although she should avoid feathers after the disgrace that was her Vogue September issue cover), and the colors are appealing, but it just doesn’t scream fashion to me. It’s not particularly daring, or innovative, or unusual: it’s a pretty starlet in sexy clothes, but not much else. Grace Coddington has better visions in her nightmares.

Do you agree? Or do you think I’m totally wrong and want to educate me on the brilliance of this cover?

What have we here? A chair ripped off from Casablana in Boston, aka the Casa B when it was a hangout of pre-NYC Edie Sedgwick (a subtle nod to Sienna’s film?). Some sort of white lacey stocking that suggests a varicose-veined nurse merged with an 80s 14-year-old. A pose that makes her thigh look twice as wide as her head. Is that a Peter Pan collar? An explosion of albino fluff from her bum. Obviously, the British have a sly sense of humor.

A lacey stocking that evokes both a varicose-veined nurse and a 14-year-old in the 1980s. Is that a Peter Pan collar? Albino fur erupting from her bum. Obviously the Brits have a sly sense of humor!
