Strippers Protest Church, In The Best Turn of Events Ever

Kyle Robertson | Dispatch

Things in Ohio are finally starting to make sense. After having their place of employ, the Foxhole strip club, protested by scripture-slinging religious zealots from the New Beginnings Ministries church, a group of dancers showed up at a Sunday service and protested right back.

They sat outside the holiest of holies wearing bikinis, toting with Super Soakers, and holding signs that said: “Matthew 7:15: Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing,” and “Revelations 22:11: He that is unjust, let him be unjust still.”

All I can say to this is: Fuck. Yes. In a video of the protest posted at The Columbus Dispatch, the pastor is shown talking about how “there is good and there is evil,” and the strip club is evil. Right — women’s naked bodies are evil, period. I don’t even want to launch into this, because this kind of religious ignorance and bigotry only makes me angry, and it’s not worth my precious energy to try and counter claims made by idiots. Stripping is a legal job, protesting the women who do it is harassment, and forcing your repressed, sexist morals on someone else is a ridiculous and offensive way to spend everyone’s time.

But just for a second, let’s forget about the sexism, patriarchy, shaming of female sexuality and inherent sexual repression involved in protesting a strip club. Just set that to the side for a moment, if you will. Here’s what happened when Pastor Dunfee, in all his religious glory, was confronted with the fact that some of the women who work at the club are there to support their families. According to the Dispatch:

“These church people say horrible things about us,” Hughes said [a 30-year-old mother of six who works at the club]. “They say we’re homewreckers and whores. The fact of the matter is, we’re working to keep our own homes together, to give our kids what they need.”

Dunfee said it’s not that simple. He said he consistently offers the women help, a chance at redemption.

“I tell them, ‘I will put a roof over your heads, and your bills will be paid, and your children’s bellies will be full,’” he said.

Re-he-heally?? Really?! You’re really going to say that? So you’re telling me, Dunfee, that you will personally feed and clothe all the kids of all the women who work there, plus pay their rent, plus pay their bills? Really? You’re gonna do that? Or is it GOD that’s gonna do that, once those heathens get in there and start praying? Cause we all know you can make just as much money on Sunday morning at church as you can on a Saturday night at the club.

Dunfee finished his anti-woman rant with the following gem:

He said their presence has united his church members and reinvigorated their mission to shut down the club. “They have now seen the evil firsthand,” Dunfee said. “This has just made us stronger.”

The evil, just to be clear, that is women.
