5 Pairs of Jeans Every Woman Should Own

I’m ashamed to admit that I’m woefully behind on my jeans collection. I have one pair that I wear the shit out of, one that I wear but am not proud of, and one pair that I wear even though I can’t reeeaaallly fit into them. So for my own sake, and for yours, if you’re anything like me, here’s a guide to jeans we should all own this season:

  1. Every day-ers. These are the jeans that are comfy, look great with any shirt, make your ass look as amazing as it actually is, and don’t require any kind of starvation to fit into.
  2. Boyfriend jeans. Tougher to pull off than Katie Holmes makes them look, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find the right pair. Rock them with a tight tee for a little bit of balance.
  3. Skinny jeans. Not skinny jeans that you can’t get into, but skinny jeans that actually fit and don’t make you want to die every time you pull them on (I give myself…very good advice…)
  4. Black jeans. I was sort of anti-black jeans for a while, thinking that they were too reminiscent of middle school. But they’ve clearly taken hold of the fashion subconscious, and to be fair, they give you another option in the morning.
  5. Jeans that make you feel like a badass. This can mean whatever you want — maybe you feel like a badass in GAP boot-cuts. I don’t know. That’s a personal decision. But you should make it happen.

I’m sorry but not EVERY woman should own a pair of skinny jeans. *I* should not ever EVER even think about buying pair of skinny jeans. I shouldn’t even try a pair on. Unless you weigh less than 100 pounds soaking wet…skip the skinny jeans. PLEASE.

I have to agree with Melanie on the skinny jeans. The fact is, if you don’t have a heroin habit, you’re probably not skinny enough to wear skinny jeans in public.

Even discounting the fact that I should not ever own skinny jeans, I have 10 pairs of jeans in my closet, and the only catagory of jeans everyone needs I own is 1 pair of jeans that make me feel like a badass.

I need to go shopping again, but every time I do, I end up losing a size or two and I’m back to having nothing fit well.

I would trade out the skinny jeans for straight-leg jeans and the boyfriend jeans (i’ve got big hips and i’m actually more afraid of the boyfriends than the skinnies) for trouser jeans. I really do think every woman needs a nice pair of dark trouser jeans. Wide legs flatter most people, they look great dressed up or dressed down, and they’re probably the only jean you could get away with wearing to work.

I dunno about the black jeans either. They’re so in and out of style all the time. Actually, most of these jeans are trends and the other two descriptions are vague. Jeans every woman should own? meh.

I agree with Kate. Skinny jeans are for skinny people only. I’m slender and tall, but when I pull on a pair of skinny jeans they just don’t work. The Straight-Leg jean is a much better option.
I do like Boyfriend-Jeans as a sweat pant replacement. For example, if I’m cleaning my house or have to make a quick trip to the grocery store. Trouser jeans are a brilliant look. Any body type can pull them off and they will never go out of style. They are a great casual Friday look too.
