Who Is Your Favorite Model, and Why?

A lot of people have favorite models. But what is it about a particular woman that makes you always want to look at pictures of them or buy products that they endorse? Everyone has their own conscious or subconscious reasons. So let me tell you about my favorite model and we can go from there.

When I was in high school, I was really skinny. That may sound awesome to some people, but I grew up in the South, where the ideal female figure was curvy and buxom. Compared to the pretty girls at my school, I looked like a boy. For awhile, I ate protein bars and junk food and tried to fatten myself up in any way I could, without realizing how hard it was to completely change your basic body type. But the first time I saw a picture of Stella Tennant in Vogue (probably when she was the face of Chanel), something changed. Here was this woman with a slender, boyish figure and angular facial features who was not only beautiful but being photographed for one of the greatest fashion magazines in the world.

Stella Tennant isn’t my favorite model because I look like her. We bear a very slight passing resemblance, but no one will ever stop me in the street thinking I am her. For one thing, she’s about six inches taller than me. My eyes are brown; hers blue.  But my affection for her comes from the fact that she’s like an extreme, much more beautiful version of myself. There’s no chance of me ever getting a makeover and looking like Bar Refaeli or Veruschka. But in a wonderful fantasy universe, it’s somewhat more plausible that I could be Stella Tennant someday – it would require a haircut and maybe a nose ring, but not plastic surgery. That’s fashion escapism at its best – I may not look like this woman, but I don’t look completely unlike her either.

Do you have a favorite model? If so, who is it and why?

My best friend, Megan Moore, has done a fair amount of modeling (mostly overseas), so out of loyalty, she’s my favorite model because I’ve known her since before she was stunningly beautiful. But other than her, I (still) love Cindy Crawford, partly because I think she’s one of the most beautiful women in the world, partly because despite being one of the most beautiful women in the world, she’s amazingly intelligent (valedictorian of her high school, academic scholarship to Northwestern to study chemical engineering), but mostly because we have the same birthday.

Crystal Renn. Oh man, Crystal Renn. Unsurprisingly, we have very similar body types, so I’m sure that has something to do with it, but she’s also incredibly bad ass and has a super sexy voice. I think I actually have to buy her book. That’s probably the next step of “thinking a supermodel is wicked awesome,” right?

My favorite model is Karolina Kurkova. And it’s for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned. She’s a blonde and fair and doesn’t seem to need to overdose on self-tanner. Her face seems very Slavic to me, (she’s from the Czech Republic, my family is Croatian). She was just shooting her first Vogue cover (and actually not that much older than I was) when I was in high school. For some reason, I just related to her and I’ve always been happy to see her doing so well. So she’s my favorite!

      Naomi Campbell is sooooooo beautiful!!
      Her beauty is ageless/timeless…
She STILL looks the same after all these years and is STLL the baddest (working) super model in the biz!!
      Too fly!!

For years I was mildly obsessed with Jessica Stam. For awhile her loveliness graced a huge BCBG Max Azria ad in Soho, and I’d catch myself staring at it on my way home from work. There’s just something about her beautiful blue eyes and the space of the features on her face. These days, I’m smitten with Daria Werbowy – she’s a class act and an exquisite example of natural beauty… I could stare at her photos all day.

    • Thea

Karlie Kloss, without a doubt. there’s just something about her!

Milla Jovovich, mostly because we have similar body types. I remember the first time I saw her in return to the blue lagoon with her hair over her smaller than average boobs. I wanted to be her at that moment! She is fierce and beautiful. :-) And she totally has killer blue eyes just like mine!

Linda Evangelista. She has a beautiful face and she’s so elegant. Giselle Bundchen is also my favorite I love her sunny attitude.

Lizzie Miller–The model that caused the stir in Glamour mag because she had a teeny tummy pooch. Love her!

    • Katie

Lily Donaldson, she is so unique looking! Her features are just flawless. Oh, and I like Tao Okamoto as well. She too is very striking and her skin is amazing looking.

    • Alexandra

Freja Beha Erichsen without a doubt. In an industry dominated by seas of blonde-haired blue-eyed beauties, she definitely shines through. She cannot be labelled as a conventional pretty face but nonetheless she is stunning in her own unique way…… Her exquisite features, her personality and her
versatility as a model definitely shines through in
all that she does. She is simply the best!!!

Yup, Freja Beha is super amazing. I love her attitude and style.I also like the fact that she stays so grounded after all these years in the modeling industry. That’s commendable. Btw, Sasha pivovarova is also another one of my favorite models cos she always nails her editorials! Imo, she is the queen of editorials(:
