Sweden Observes National Chlamydia Day

Who doesn’t love a good holiday? There’s Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19 and Blame Somebody Day the first Friday the thirteenth of any year. And now, thanks to the good people of Sweden, there’s a Chlamydia Day. Because like every dog, every STD should also get its day.

Apparently, Swedish people have a lot of sex. Or at least that’s what I learned from reading the Stieg Larsson books. And now, four people in Sweden contract chlamydia every hour. So yesterday was deemed “Chlamydia Monday” as a way of raising awareness about the STD and encouraging people to break from sexing each other long enough to go get tested. The Swedish Institute for Disease Control did free urine tests. No word on whether they’ll hand out inexpensive, ergonomically designed condoms as well.
