Microwaves Are Awesome: Cake In A Mug

In response to the post on whether feminism killed home cooking or if it was simply that dastardly appliance, the microwave, many commentors pointed out that they really like to cook. To those commentors, I might say “please have me over for dinner, I do not know how to make anything that doesn’t go in the microwave.” But I don’t. Because most of the time, my non-cooking-skills are okay, because microwaves are awesome! And now I can make cake in a mug! In 5 minutes! In a microwave! Try to beat that time, Rachel Ray. Here’s how it’s done:

You’ll need:

A microwave oven

A large microwavable mug

A tablespoon for measuring

4 Tablespoons flour

9 Tablespoons hot chocolate mix

1 pinch of salt

1 egg

3 Tablespoons water

3 Tablespoons oil

Cooking Spray

To Bake

Measure out the flour, hot chocolate mix and salt into the mug. Stir.

Crack the egg into the mug. Stir a bit after adding the egg so the cup doesn’t overflow.

Add water and oil.

Stir until thoroughly moistened. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the mug with your spoon to avoid any leftover pockets of dry ingredients.

Microwave for 3 minutes

Eat while making nom, nom, nom noises.

I actually tried this once in a desperate need of chocolate cake. Make sure you use cake flour and not just regular flour or you will be terribly disappointed. Trust me.

Or you could just buy these…

They come in full size and snack size. The small ones only take 30 seconds to cook! And they are delish!

I concur with Lauren..those warm delights are so good. Especially the caramel molten cake one. MMM…:)

But we want Jennifer to learn how to cook so she can be a feminist Domestic Goddess cat lady. And by “cooking” we expect more than adding water to a mix no matter how delicious. Cooking at least requires an egg and stirring.

I love this. A lot. Especially because there’s cake for one! I love cake, but I always either eat too much at once, or it gets dried out before it’s finished. This is perfect!
