Gallery: 10 Movie Protagonists Worse Than Mark Zuckerberg

At the beginning of The Social Network, Mark Zuckerberg’s (Jesse Eisenberg) girlfriend calls him an asshole. He then goes home and writes a long angry screed about how tiny her breasts are online, thus proving her right. In fact, the whole plot of The Social Network could very well revolve around “what does it mean to be an asshole?” And the answer is “behaving like the movie version of Mark Zuckerberg, maybe.” But is Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network the biggest movie protagonist asshole we’ve ever seen? Not by a long shot. Here are some douchebags and baguettes who do more than steal the Winklevoss twins’ idea.

(Also, it’s impossible for me to talk about Citizen Kane without including this trailer for a remake of Kane, “now with more dick kicking”, so here:

Scarlett O’Hara is awesome. Awesome. She keeps her entire family out of poverty with that lumber mill, before that she kept them from starving by keeping the farm running – picking cotton etc. She is a heartbreaking example of a young woman who was taught to live in a world that was wiped away. Of course she has a complex about money, she was starving at one point! And marriage (auctioning off her looks) was pretty much the only card she had to play.

Okay, I see how Scarlett was a selfish bitch from time to time, but hey:

    1) Rhett totally knew she was marrying him for his money and encouraged that.
    2) Um, victim blaming much? Scarlett drove herself to work. Some guy attempted to rape her. Frank got killed trying to avenge her. Yeah, that’s totally her fault.
    3) She wants to be a good mother to Wade – she even mentions it a few times in the book. She just doesn’t relate well to children. Lots of women don’t. She would have used birth control if it had been an option.
    4) Yeah, she’s awful to Rhett – but does she ever threaten to crush his skull between her bare hands before overpowering him physically and forcing him to have sex against his will? No? Then Rhett doesn’t get to complain about her being mean to him.

I will grant you trying to seduce Melanie’s husband, however.
