How to Marry a Supermodel

Supermodels are like unicorns: beautiful, rare, elusive, possibly fictional. And yet some of them marry people who are less beautiful than them. How does someone land a model spouse? We have a couple of suggestions.

1. Be a rich musician.

This seems to be by far the most popular approach. Successful examples include Keith Richards and Patti Hansen, Heidi Klum and Seal, Iman and David Bowie, Paulina Porizkova and Ric Ocasek, Yasmin and Simon LeBon, Karen Elson and Jack White, and Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum. Unsuccessful examples include Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall and Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley.

2. Be a rich athlete

This is another popular route – after all, you guys can work out and preen in the mirror together. Successful examples include Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady, Adriana Lima and Marko Janic, and Jeff Gordon and Ingrid Vandebosch. (We can debate whether NASCAR drivers are athletes later.)

3. Be really, really rich

A supermodel gets accustomed to a certain kind of lifestyle, so it’s good to marry someone wealthy just in case the gravy train ever stops running. Successful examples include Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Natalia Vodianova and Justin Portman, Stephanie Seymour and Peter Brant, and Marisa Miller and Griffin Guest. Unsuccessful examples include Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar.

4. When all else fails, knock her up.

Recent success stories in this time-honored tradition include Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom and Doutzen Kroes and Sunnery James.
