Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Liya Kebede moved to Paris when she was 18 to try her hand at modeling. Of course it surprised no one when she became an instant superstar. Beloved by Tom Ford and a frequent subject of Demarchelier, Kebede also broke ground as the first black model to sign with Estee Lauder. Nowadays, she is best known for her namesake foundation, which “funds advocacy and awareness-raising projects” and aims to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality around the world. She is, however, still staggeringly beautiful.
