Look of the Day: Michelle Williams At The New York Film Critics Circle Awards

Speaking of dubious awards ceremonies, Blue Valentine star Michelle Williams showed up to the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in a Wren skirt and Nina Ricci top along with (you’ll have to take my word on this) some patent black Louboutin platforms. The outfit works so seamlessly I thought she was wearing a dress–or at least a head-to-toe designer look, but it turns out Michelle (or her stylist) got creative. The different textures are excellent and the whole thing is a perfect study in mixing prints and patterns: peekaboo lace on top and shiny rivets on the skirt.

This has been Michelle’s de facto red carpet look for a while now and it works well on her: prim, ladylike, demure, with subtle sexiness all over, especially here with the lace on nude fabric.  Still more points for her daring pixie cut. If I had to complain, it would be the safe, boring choice of black platform of Louboutins, but I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed on red carpets anymore without them.

Anyway. I think she looks lovely on all fronts. What do you say?

I don’t love this outfit, but I like how her shirt says “remember the 1990s” and her hair says “Mia Farrow, you’re hideous compared to me.”
