Newsflash: The Hot Chick in that Hotel Ad Might Not Be at the Hotel When You Get There

You guys, I’ve been doing some digging over here, and I have some shocking news: advertisers have been lying to us. You know how when you see an ad for a hotel, there’s almost inevitably a hot chick in a bikini dozing languidly beside the sparkling waters of the hotel’s pool? Well, CNN reports that most of the time, that chick isn’t really there when you show up to the hotel:

“Resort marketing materials will often show an attractive woman surveying an invitingly empty pool…

‘The reality is, the pool will be covered with screaming kids or there’s a raucous pool party going on, but what they want you to think is that it’s completely empty except for this one woman who is always very sexy,’ [Oyster.com editor Jennifer] Garfinkel said. ‘Marketers for hotels absolutely love this.’”

How can this have happened? How can advertisers have gone so far as to use women to sell products that have nothing to do with those women? That doesn’t even make sense! For instance, I’m planning to go out and buy Katy Perry’s new perfume, and what are you going to tell me — that she’s not going to be wrapped around the bottle dressed in a pink and purple latex catsuit? I mean, come on! Why else would I buy it?

That’s just crazy talk.
