Sick, Sad World: When Hickeys Kill

Normally, hickeys are a great way to let your co-workers know you’re getting laid (that’s why we go around sticking vacuum cleaner suction tubes on our necks! To trick them!). But other times, they kill you.

Oh, fine, they only give you a stroke and paralyze you. We overdramatize, sometimes. But they can still give you a stroke and paralyze you. In New Zealand, a 44 year old woman recently went to the hospital after experiencing loss of motion in her left hand. According to Fox:

Doctors concluded the woman had suffered a mild stroke but were puzzled about its cause until they found a small vertical bruise on her neck near a major artery, a hickey, she received a few days earlier.

“Because it was a love bite there would be a lot of suction,” one of the doctors who treated her, Teddy Wu, told the Christchurch Press.

“Because of the physical trauma it had made a bit of bruising inside the vessel. There was a clot in the artery underneath where the hickey was.”

In conclusion, love and kisses make your heart flutter. And then they dislodge an artery. Spinsters 4-3ver!
