Which Decades Inspired Designers For Fall 2011?

Designers are always looking forward and back. This past NYFW, a few major (and oft-referenced) time periods seemed to dominate. They were:

’70s
Looks Like: Floppy hats, flowing jumpsuits, wrap dresses, a flared leg and huge decadent furs.
Found At: DVF and Halston.
Fit For: Jerry Hall, Ali MacGraw, Bianca Jagger.

’90s
Looks Like: Babydoll dresses, boxy necklines, plaid, grunge styling and knit caps.
Found At: Vena Cava and Nicholas K.
Fit For: Kate Moss and Winona Ryder back in the day.

The Future*
Looks Like: Architecture, unconventional shapes, monochrome, unexpected volumes and techno fabric.
Found At: RAD by Rad Hourani, Alexandre Herchcovitch

*Look, it’s not a “decade,” so let’s just say “The decade in which The Fifth Element takes place.”
