This is Trey Parker and Matt Stone at the 2000 Academy Awards. They’re attending in support of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. They’re wearing reproductions of Jennifer Lopez’s infamous Versace dress and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Ralph Lauren gown, respectively.
These are probably my top two Oscar looks ever.
It’s remarkable to me that 11 years later, their little stunt still feels like a refreshingly vicious send-up of Academy Awards pomp and circumstance. This is the best example of participating in an institution without taking it too seriously and I still love it and will probably post it every year until the Oscars stop.
This is also the only time I will ever turn a blind eye to flip flops.
