Say what you want about Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy from Sunday’s ceremony (or, say that it was awesome and be right), one red carpet look of hers that didn’t inspire many arguments was this showstopping pale yellow Valentino with burgundy accents (at the 2005 Oscars). Too often when people say “old Hollywood” they mean another huge, boring gown paired with pin curls and too much garish make-up. To me, this is the epitome of a modern take on old Hollywood glamour. Also, perhaps the greatest example of a pale blonde in a yellow dress in red carpet history. Still love this one.
