The news about the $14,000 prom dress made of diamonds — featured at left — is not that it exists; it’s that someone bought it.
KABC reports that:
“The floor-length dress has hundreds of diamonds hand-sewn onto the bodice. The dresses, which are form-fitting and strapless with a thigh-high slit, are custom-made and take about three weeks to finish.”
They add that two customers have bought the garments, one in the US and one in Europe.
Granted, they can’t have that many diamonds if they’re but a mere $14,000 — we already know that garments made entirely of diamonds cost much more. But still, I don’t think there’s any disputing that parents who drop that much cash on dresses for their kids, that will be worn for one night and one night only, should be promptly slapped. I’m available to deliver the blow, if it ever comes to that.
