Dressing Dogs in Fur Coats Makes Me Uncomfortable

Look. I’ll be the first to admit that if my dog would let me*, I’d put her in adorable t-shirts, hats, leg warmers, and maybe even vests. I love doggie clothes.

But I also love doggies, and other animals for that matter, and that’s why this article about how designers are making mink coats for dogs makes me uncomfortable. This is like in “The Social Network”, when the kid is accused of feeding chicken to his chicken. Putting the skin of a dead animal onto another, living animal for warmth just ain’t right.

Need another movie analogy? It’s like a creepy, silent, animal version of “Silence of the Lambs.”

*previous attempts to dress up my dog have resulted in destroyed Halloween costumes and panicked, frantic sprints down the hallway

Is this a vegan lifestyle statement? “Putting the skin of a dead animal onto another, living animal for warmth just ain’t right”

That’s valid. I’m guessing that my mammalian self, draped in the skin of a cow (not just my body but also my feet) is equally creepy? Why is this weirder?
