Lady Gaga Believes Alexander McQueen Wrote ‘Born This Way’

Lady Gaga is the surprise cover star of May’s Harper’s Bazaar and of course there’s an accompanying editorial with lots of crazy fashions. What’s more crazy than the face masks, sheer skirts and pink wigs is Gaga’s claim that Alexander McQueen “planned” the timing of her current album and even wrote her single “Born This Way.”

Her other fashion hero is the late, great Alexander McQueen. When McQueen comes up, Gaga leans back and a sense of wonder glows from her face. She thinks that after his suicide, McQueen began working through her. “I think he planned the whole thing: Right after he died, I wrote ‘Born This Way.’ I think he’s up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away, planning this whole thing.” Supporting Gaga’s claim was the decision by the label–not Gaga herself–to move up the release date for “Born This Way,” ultimately to the exact day of the one-year anniversary of McQueen’s death. “When I heard that, I knew he planned the whole damn thing. I didn’t even write the fucking song. He did!”

I’m usually a fan of Gaga’s fashion endeavors and general weirdo aesthetic, but this strikes me as tasteless and self-serving. McQueen’s death was a terrible heartbreak and seeing a claim anything along the lines of “he killed himself with any sort of recognition of her new album’s release date” is gross. Hopefully it’s out of context.

Sooo what is up with her shoulder? Photo shop error? Creepy.

Completely agree with you. That’s such a ridiculous thing to say.

Maybe it’s her way of trying to cope with his loss.
    She did/does idolize him.
