Princess Beatrice’s Hat Sells For $131,000

We all had a good laugh over the fallopian tube hat that Princess Beatrice wore to the royal wedding, and we all admired her class when she decided to take that laughing in stride and sell her hat on eBay, donating the profits to charity.

But did any of us think it would fetch the amount that it did? Last week, we noted that with bidding nearly at an end, the hat could net over $33,000. Since then (last Thursday, to be exact) the infamous fascinator — which even has its own Facebook page — has more than quadrupled in worth. And yesterday, one final, lucky bidder sealed the deal after shelling out over $131,000.

And I, for one, am looking forward to the next phase in that hat’s life, the day someone pops up in the street just rocking the shit out of it. I hope whoever bought it doesn’t put it in some office somewhere, behind glass. It may now be a collector’s item, but that hat’s soul needs to be free.

“I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have.”

Winner, don’t put the hat under glass. It’s your duty to take it out for fun times like Beatrice did. Bonus points if you wear it to your cousin’s wedding.
