Did Urban Outfitters Rip Off This Independent Jewelry Designer?

Etsy seller Tru.Che just noticed a collection of mixed metal necklaces by Urban Outfitters that look remarkably like… her own. Above on the left, we have Urban’s “I Heart Destination” necklace (featuring New York). On the right, is the independent designer’s (from her United/World of Love collection). As you can see, both necklaces depict a flattened silver state (or nation, below), stamped through by a heart, on a silver chain. Here’s what she has to say:

I’m very disappointed in Urban Outfitters. I know they have stolen designs from plenty of other artists. I understand that they are a business, but it’s not cool to completely rip off an independent designer’s work. [...] I’ll no longer be shopping at any of their stores [they also own Free People & Anthropologie], and I’m going to do my best from here on out to support independent designers & artists. Please feel free to pass this link on. I really appreciate all the support & love I’ve received today.

Seems kind of blatant, don’t you think?

Here’s another example, of France:

There’s a whole blog dedicated to this called You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice. Here’s the link to all of the entries about Urban Outfitters. They’re notorious for doing this sort of thing. This *one* example just happens to have gotten some legs.
