The Playboy Club: The Beginning Of Greatness For These Ladies

Here at The Gloss, we have nothing but love for our scantily clad sisters in Playboy.

We also like women who bust stereotypes, and that’s why we’re excited to see this list over at Time, detailing the successful careers of nine women after their stints as bunnies at the Playboy Club. Among them are Debbie Harry, comedian Carol Cleveland, and U.S. Federal Judge Kimba Wood.

The women in the Time article weren’t nude models; as waitresses, their modern-day equivalent would be more along the lines of a Hooters girl. When it comes to those who defy expectations on the pages of Playboy, there are also the women of MENSA who posed for the magazine in the 1980′s, as well as innumerable athletes who’ve shown off their fabulous physiques in the magazine over the years.

All of these ladies smash to pieces the notion that women are either sexy or smart, a notion that persists because women who are both of those things (and many women are, whether they appear on the pages of Playboy or not) are so threatening to society’s delicate, precious balance. They might be smart enough to realize how much power they actually wield and…well, wield it.

At any rate, good for Time for doing the piece, and good for these women for unabashedly embracing all sides of themselves.
