Murder (Plot) Most Foul: Husband Catches Wife Catching Husband Scheming To Kill Her

There are a number of reasons not to hit on a 17-year-old girl on Facebook if you’re a 38-year-old man in the middle of a divorce. 1. It’s illegal. 2. It likely has the potential to negatively impact your divorce proceedings. 3. It might be your wife, posing as a 17-year-old girl to get you in trouble.

For David Voelkert, all three of those wound up being true. And not only did he invite “Jessica Studebaker,” a fake profile that Angela Voelkert, his wife, made up, to run away with him, he also discussed with this faux-teenager why it would be great if his wife were offed, possibly by some imagined thug that Studebaker scrounged up at the local high school.

But! All was not as it seemed. In a most unlikely turn of events, David in fact knew all along that Angela was behind “Studebaker” (I believe that’s what Sarah Palin would call a “gotcha” moment) and was playing along in order to use the information he gathered about her trickery in court.

Twist!

The Smoking Gun reports that David had put together a notarized document days before ever responding to “Studebaker,” which indicated that he was well aware of the fact that “Jessica” was Angela:

Voelkert provided FBI agents with a May 25 notarized affidavit in which he describes receiving a friend request from “Jessica Studebaker,” whom he suspected was his ex-wife. “I am lying to this person,” he stated, “to gain positive proof that it is indeed my ex-wife trying to again tamper in my life.” He added, “In no way do I have plans to leave with my children or do any harm to Angela Dawn Voelkert or anyone else.”

It seems as though David was trying to beat Angela at her own game. Mission accomplished, sir! And indeed, well played.

I’ve heard it said before, that truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction has to be believable. Well, this story is about as strange as it can get. I watch most of the crime dramas on a popular network, and not yet have one of their writers came up with a plot line like this one.
