In This Weird Equal Pay PSA Batgirl Threatens To Kill Batman

I think, at TheGloss, we are all for tough negotiation techniques. And yes, it’s true that women often make less than men, perhaps because they’re less aggressive in arguing for their starting salary. But as a general rule, if a bomb is about to go off and your boss is tied to a pole we recommend… not taunting them about how they aren’t paying you enough? Unless that’s your thing. Unless you’re going over to the Catwoman side of things, which is understandable, except that even Catwoman wasn’t quite this terrifying. – io9

Wow…the write up is a bit snarky given how light-hearted and fun the ad is.

Also, one might want to consider the historical context – this isn’t about “perhaps” women don’t argue strongly enough in their opening salary negotiations (reason number a billi0n I love my union! Also only one of many factors, including structural ones, that are the cause of the wage gap.) It’s from a time when “women’s jobs” were listed in a separate section of the paper, when equal pay for equal work (let alone for work of equal value) wasn’t a mainstream idea. After all, that would take money from the breadwinning male and give it some wife who’s working for pin money, and is just going to get knocked up and leave anyways.
