Guess How Much Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic White Dress Sold For

How much was the winning bid for the dress Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch at Debbie Reynolds’ auction this weekend?

$4.6 million!

The dress was expected to sell for between $1 million and $2 million, but after taxes and fees, the bid increased to $5.52 million. This breaks the record previously held by the little black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which sold for $923,187. Other items auctioned off from Reynolds’ memorabilia collection such as Elizabeth Taylor’s headdress from Cleopatra and Judy Garland’s blue dress from The Wizard of Oz sold for a piddly $100,000 and $1.09 million respectively.

Anybody else think it’s a little creepy that the buyer wants to remain anonymous?

Another article I read about this said “The buyer, who was relaying his bids over a telephone, was not immediately identified.”
