Poll: Do You Want To Get Married?

There’s been a lot of talk about marriage this week at TheGloss. Modern women in being married! Megan planning to get married! George Clooney never getting married 19th Century Marriage narratives! And 16 year olds are getting married, and we really don’t know how we feel about it, because we’re pretty much never able to resolve our feelings on anything, ever.

I think I probably want to get married, if only to advance my country music career. Hah! No, just kidding, I’m tone deaf. I’m working on my pop career.

But! We should ask you. How do you feel? Do you want to get married? Why?

Sorry! This poll is now closed.

No “maybe” option? Would a “maybe” response defeat the purpose of this poll?

Marriage isn’t something I aspire to or feel is essential to my own fulfillment. That said, I could be swayed by certain variables. The money thing. The romance thing. I don’t know. I’m apathetic. If it comes along and I realize I’m committed to the prospect, I’m not going to stop myself or anything. But I’m not going to force myself into it either. Isn’t that how most modern (read: liberal) women feel today?

I’d happily get married if I stumbled into the right person. But it’s not a goal in my life – I’ll be happy even if I’ll never get married. I’m not really into having a wedding, but being married would be nice.

Marriage isn’t goal in my life but I think that a I would find a wedding fun so long as I didn’t take it too seriously. I don’t want to have it registered officially just a fun ceremony. If I did it would just be so that he would be regarded as my significant other if he had to make any decisions for me. One thing I don’t intend to do is combine assets and I want to maintain an independent life.

These answers are pretty limiting. There are more reasons than the ones offered that someone would want to get married, and more reasons that a person would choose not to. I also wonder what age has to do with the answers people give. I was more on the no-to-maybe end of the scale when I was in my early 20s, but as I get older I think more about starting a family and I wonder if I’ve missed my chance. I do want to get married, but I think that may be an option that’s not available to me, ever. Where’s that answer?
