Would You Wear: A ‘Cold Shoulder’?

Yesterday, WWD did a little trend reporting on Resort 2012′s prominent collars. In clicking though, I paused at this image (above) of a Richard Chai top. By now, you’ve probably seen this cutout-shoulder style around. It’s also popped up on more than a few runways.

And whenever I see cutout-shoulders on the street, 9 times out of 10 I think to myself, “In ten years, this will be viewed with thesame scorn as shoulder pads, stirrup pants, and bell bottoms. But!

      I think with the right design, yes! It’s great for summer nights or fall days when it’s that in-between feel. The first two look cute, but that last one, ick!

      I love the one in the middle because it still has a classic shape, but the one on the far right is just wrong.

      I’m a little confused. I thought this was a style in 2006? Or Cache (where I shamefully worked in 2006) was way ahead of it’s time.

      I had a shirt like this last year from Victoria’s Secret. My husband, who is always supportive of my personal style and always compliments my clothing choices, finally blurted out “I really hate that shirt! its looks so 80s”.

      Not that you should dress for other people, but I decided to skip that trend if even the most non-judgemental, disinterested in fashion person thought it was scary.

      I don’t know. I’m a huge fan of the one shoulder look, but I still don’t know how I feel about the cutout.
