What Your Favorite Romantic Comedy Heroine Says About You

Everyone knows romantic comedies are ridiculous cinematic fodder.

Still, there are those rom-coms you always seem to make time watch when they’re on TV. Even though you’ve seen it fifty times, you find yourself rooting for the heroine who is about to lose (jeopardize her relationship, choose the wrong man, ruin her friendships…) it all.

The impossible gorgeous romantic comedy lead you relate to says a lot about you. Choose your favorite and click “Start Slideshow” to allow us to read your happily-ever-after palm.

      BLUE! I MEANT BLUE!

      My fact-checker is fired.

Fools Rush In. The whole thing is just so damn painful, (and totally unrealistic) I love it.

I just went on a tirade about how much I hate My Best Friend’s Wedding this weekend. The only likable character is George. Julia is a bitch and decides she’s in love with her used-to-be best friend only because he is no longer available. Then she decides she’s going to ruin his life just so she can have her way. Dermot makes his fiance quit school in her last year so she can follow him around with his low paying dream job. And lastly, Cameron Diaz is the epitome of the idiot girl who quits her entire life for a man she supposedly loves, but what about him she loves we never learn. It makes me so angry. I’m so glad I got that off my chest, again.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. But I always keep watching for that Say A Little Prayer scene.

Brandy, just youtube it. It will be less painful in the long run.

My favourite is Sleepless in Seattle, and only because it was the first movie I ever watched on a plane. Four times.

Annie Reed in Sleepless in Seattle: Girl, you have amazing standards. You refuse to settle into any relationship, career or real estate that you only feel luke-warm about. Stick to your guns and you’ll be satisfied in the end. You really love NPR.

Ah none of my guilty pleasure faves were on the list! The Wedding Date, Sweet Home Alabama and The Holiday (Kate Winslet of course!)

  • Joyce

Now I know exactly why I’m a sucker for “Legally Blonde”!

Its not really a romantic comedy, but I totally relate to Katie Holmes’ character, Laura, in “The Romantics”… Maybe its just because she was the first character that I believed was an English major. And, their group of friends totally remind me of mine.

Where’s Frances (don’t call her Baby) Hausman from Dirty Dancing??

  • Allison

Where is Kathleen Kelly from You’ve Got Mail???? I’d like to have a shop around the corner…

Similarly, there must be women out there that identify with Sally Albright in When Harry Met Sally:

Sally: He just met her… She’s supposed to be his transitional person, she’s not supposed to be the ONE. All this time I thought he didn’t want to get married. But, the truth is, he didn’t want to marry me. He didn’t love me.
Harry: If you could take him back now, would you?
Sally: No. But why didn’t he want to marry me? What’s the matter with me?
    Harry: Nothing.
    Sally: I’m difficult.
    Harry: You’re challenging.
Sally: I’m too structured, I’m completely closed off.
Harry: But in a good way.
Sally: No, no, no, I drove him away. AND, I’m gonna be forty.
    Harry: When?
    Sally: Someday.
    Harry: In eight years.
Sally: But it’s there. It’s just sitting there, like some big dead end. And it’s not the same for men. Charlie Chaplin had kids when he was 73.
Harry: Yeah, but he was too old to pick them up.

There is a shocking lack of Meg Ryan on this Rom Com list…

What this slideshow made me realise: I really don’t like any romcom heroines at all.
