Vintage Ads Portrayed Sugar As Meth-Like Weightloss Powder

Need help losing that last pesky ten pounds? Help yourself to a heaping bowl of diabetes!

Wait, what? I’ll tell you. Threatened by the advent of artificial sweeteners (which, granted, have problems of their own), the sugar industry put out a bunch of ads in the 1960′s aimed at convincing people that sugar was good for them. Or at least, um, had the power to make them all hyper and skinny and stuff. (What are methamphetamines?) Also, you should totally feed it to your kids, because they need energy for breaking things. Riddle me this, “science”: if sugar is so bad for kids, why are there so many skinny ones?
