Not wearing white to one’s wedding is always a popular subject of debate: recently, we loved Katie Shillingford’s romantic goth Gareth Pugh in dove gray; some readers found it hideous (one likened it to a funeral shroud). Director and Hollywood scion Sofia Coppola is the latest to enter the non-white wedding dress fray, as she wore custom lavender Azzedine Alaïa to wed Pheonix’s Thomas Mars. What do you think? We’ll be sure to update if more photos of the dress hit the internet.
The intimate-ish 80-person ceremony took place at the Coppola family villa in Bernalda, Italy (with guests including George Lucas and Johnny Depp) and featured a feast of “cheeses, figs, salads, pasta, fish and pork, washed down with wine from the family’s farm.” The cake was vanilla with chantilly cream. Coppola and Mars have two kids, Romy, 4, and Cosima, 15 months.
