Drunk? It’s Because Of World War II

A lot of theories have floated around about why women are binge-drinking so heavily these days. Is it because we’re unhappy? Because we’re incorrigible trollops? Because of gay marriage?

Actually, according to a recent study done at the Washington University School of Medicine, it’s because of World War II. Fucking World War II, amirite?? The study claims that because women started working in male-dominated fields during the war, their lives and the lives of future generations of ladies changed. Not only could we work with the men, but we could play with the men too, meaning we could drink with the men. And that’s when our troubles began.

Now, I don’t know about you, but that reasoning leaves me wanting a little more. So, just because women starting working, they started binge drinking? Doesn’t that imply that men would then have the same problem? Or did we essentially just start drinking and never stop, leaving our male counterparts floundering in the dust?

The study will be published in an upcoming issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research, and here’s hoping that it provides the answers to those questions and more.
