Beyoncé Feels ‘Empowered’ By Her Pregnancy

I think it’s safe to say that the word “empowered” is officially overused in our cultural lexicon. Many of us claim empowerment after doing anything from trying a new topping on our frozen yogurt to upgrading the trendiness of our sunglasses.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I think that empowerment is great, and I’m not begrudging anyone their feelings. I myself have been known to feel empowered over little things — like buying a new lamp, for example.

So with that in mind, I’ll simply point out that Beyoncé feels empowered by her pregnancy. The singer made the statement during an interview with ET Canada: “It’s been great. I feel free. I feel very empowered,” she said.

It does strike me as an odd thing to feel about being pregnant — after all, you’re not really harnessing any power or influence that you didn’t already biologically possess, and it’s not like you’ve done something even remotely out of the ordinary. Still, I’m sure that being pregnant is scary, and makes you feel all kinds of different things, and so to each her own.

For those of you who have bred, did you feel empowered by your pregnancy?

I haven’t bred any offspring yet but I can easily see how pregnancy would make you feel empowered – she’s making another human being! Thats pretty powerful

I think that pregnancy can often make a woman feel pretty strong. Your body is going through a million changes, but hey, it’s growing another person! It’s cool. I agree that “empowered” is kind of obnoxious, but I know what she was getting at. Even if it’s been done a million times before, pregnancy can make you feel amazing.

I haven’t bred yet but as much as I like to hate on Bey, I get what she’s saying. Co-sign what Kerry said, it’s pretty amazing making another human being.

I can understand her point. She’s a celebrity so how her body looks, what she eats, that’s all monitored and critiqued to a scary degree. When you are pregnant, you can embrace the fact that NORMAL PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO EAT. You don’t have to wear Spanx and pray nothing bulges out. You EMBRACE the bulge, and so does everyone else! Also, I felt kind of badass when I was pregnant.
