Johnny Depp Compares Photo Shoots To Rape

I’ve never been photographed for a major magazine before (I know, it is surprising), but apparently it is akin to being forced to have sexual relations against your will. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp has this to say:

Well, you just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped … It feels like a kind of weird — just weird, man… Whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb.

Now, look. I’m sure Depp didn’t mean to offend. But for correction’s sake, I’d like to point out that rape victims probably experience emotions that are a little more powerful than feeling “weird” or “dumb.” Like, you know — abject terror, PTSD, physical pain…that sort of thing.

So maybe photoshoots feel like…a violation? Being taken advantage of? Being objectified? Yes, some of the same words one might use to describe a rape, but still…not rape.

A very poor choice of words…at best.

I would have much rather had a fancy photo shoot than been raped. But maybe that’s just me, a regular person, not a celebrity. Being raped didn’t make me feel dumb or weird. I don’t have enough space to explain how being raped made me feel. A very poor choice of words indeed.

Fuck Johnny Depp. I don’t know why people are so crazy about him. He plays the same role in almost every movie now and he’s one of the most overrated actors out there. And honestly, I don’t find him attractive at all. “Oh look at me. I’m Johnny Depp. I pay a shit ton of money to look like a hobo. Only, you know, I make millions of dollars a movie.”

He also defended Roman Polanski, so I have a feeling he doesn’t actually understand what the word rape means. Maybe he thinks it means getting your photo taken in an awkward position?

I feel like he’s rich enough to own a dictionary/thesaurus. He could have found a better word to use. Or maybe he needs to lay off the rum?
