Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 2012 Chanel Show Took Place Under The Sea

This is the set from today’a Chanel show. There was coral and fish and Florence Welch sang in a shell. Sometimes the line between “runway set” and “theme room at a family fun center” is very blurry.

As for the collection, it was insanely pretty and wearable, there were dresses with pockets and the soft, subtle beauty looks were flawless. Karl Lagerfeld also made the pretty ingenius decision to open with Saskia de Brauw, Freja Beha Erichsen and Aymeline Valade (in order), which had our stupid model-loving hearts bursting at the thought of a campaign headlined by the three stunning brunettes. Please, please, Powers That Be: cast those three in something major together.

And Lagerfeld wasn’t the only designer with oceans on the brain for Spring 2012; Riccardo Tisci was inspired by surfers and mermaids–even sending giant shark-tooth necklaces down the runway–while Stella McCartney trimmed her garments in swirling waves.
