David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo doesn’t land in theaters until December 21 but H&M is hell bent on making Lisbeth Salander’s signature style a staple in your wardrobe. Dragon Tattoo‘s costume designer Trish Summerville has collaborated with H&M on a line based on “the essence of the Salander character”. The collection aims to be more fashionable versions of the costumes Rooney Mara wears in the film. This apparently means less black, more platform wedges, and an abundance of cropped leather jackets. (What? No tattoo machine?)
While it makes sense for the Swedish retailer to embrace the most popular thing about Sweden since Ikea, Lisbeth Salander-inspired outfits aren’t something I see myself purchasing anytime soon. This is probably because when I read Stieg Larsson’s novels and then saw Noomi Rapace/Rooney Mara made up to look like Salander, I never thought, “I want to look like this.” I just thought, “What a terrible book and an awful character.”
The collection hits stores on December 14, one week before the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is released.
