European Philosophers Reimagined As Sexy Anime Girls

Have you ever thought to yourself “I wonder if Spinoza was a schoolgirl if he/she would have shown people his/her underwear?” No? Then you haven’t seen author Junji Hotta’s comic  “Tsundere, Heidegger, and Me”. Look at this picture:

That is Spinoza. The comic also depicts Descartes, Berkeley and Hume, Hegel, Descartes, Kant and Nietzsche. According to ITMedia ” “Decartes is a haughty princess, Nietzsche is yandere, Heidegger is a long-haired cultural club leader.”

This makes total sense in the way the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made sense? Because… just like the turtle, Raphael the painter was “cool but rude”? That’s not really true. Donatello the painter was actually cool but rude, because the Pope was always commissioning Donatello to make him paintings, to which Donatello wrote an astounding series of angry responses saying “I’m not a painter, I’m a sculptor, but I’ll do it anyway, because you’re the Pope,” all of which he signed “scultore.” That’s pretty much the definition of “cool but rude.”

So, like that. I guess what I’m saying is reducing any great figure’s life down into mass-marketable comic-book form is likely never going to get at the essence of who they were, but at least it will introduce their names to a group of people who want to see drawings of Japanese school girls lifting their skirts. So, cowabunga. – Ayashii World
