Jessica Simpson: “Not Being Anorexic Was Good For Branding”

Do you remember when Jessica Simpson wasn’t just famous for being Jessica Simpson? You know, way back when? When she was famous for real things like wearing denim short shorts? Or, even further back, when she was famous for being “that blonde girl who isn’t Britney Spears? No, no. Not Christina Aguilera. The other one. No, not Mandy Moore. The other other one. The one with the song.” Well, that was a long time ago. Now Jessica Simpson just embarrasses herself.

Simpson had a chat with Lucky magazine in which she discussed the criticism of her weight (because you can only ask famous women so many things) and the former singer had a few really dumb half-formed thoughts that she shoe-horned impressively into a single statement:

“I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding,” she says. “Because when you’re really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you.

Let’s just do this concisely: anorexia nervosa is a mental illness, not a branding tool. Fuck you.

So, since Halloween: Courtney Stodden turned up some place with her tits out, Kim Kardashian was tasteless and awful in a way that guranteed attention and now Jessica Simpson has said something jaw-droppingly stupid. The week is done.

Too be fair, she’s a bit more than ‘Not Anorexic’. She really bothers me. first she was branded for being a complete idiot, than for being in amazing shape for that one movie she made that wasnt straight to video (if you ignore that horrible dane cook movie that lasted about a week in theaters,) and what exactly is the jessica simpson ‘brand’ now? looking like your pregnant all the time? not brushing your teeth? not really doing anything relevant or interesting? getting engaged 2 seconds after your loser ex does? owning a fashion empire but being completely unfashionable and dressing frumpy? fuck her

Also, I realize its insensitive to insinuate that she’s fat when she’s now pregnant, but does she actually look any different than she did 6 months ago? and is it really unfair to scrutinize a celebrity for their looks when the initial reason they ever ‘branded’ was because of their looks? i say if she wants to be a talentless idiot in the spotlight she deserves the scrutiny especially when it was what she used to climb the fame ladder.

Eh, calling her fat over and over again isn’t any less offensive but everyone (including Jenna above) does it. Why is that okay? You think that’s good for girl’s with anorexia’s self esteem?? Besides, I don’t think that she meant what you’re implying anyway.

I think the point is that we live in a society that allowed this talentless annoying person to become famous based on her looks so she put herself in this position, even if it damages her self-esteem, it’s the route she chose.

“She put herself in this position” is really just another way to phrase “she was asking for it” and far more offensive than anything I’ve heard said by Jessica Simpson.
