Michelle Williams Has A Poignant Reason For Keeping Her Hair Short

As part of her promotional blitz for My Week With Marilyn, actress Michelle Williams has landed the cover story of the December issue of Elle UK. In addition to some very pretty photos, the magazine has released a few tidbits from the interview within, and one quote sticks out as particularly touching.

When asked about her signature pixie cut, Williams responded with this statement:

“What Matilda would love is for her mum to grow out the cropped hair, though that’s unlikely to happen any time soon. I’ve really grown into it – I feel like myself with short hair. And it’s been a really long time since I had long hair, five years. Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair!

I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it.”

Not that anyone needs a reason to have short hair, but the fact that it helps her remember her ex-partner Heath Ledger adds a really nice layer of meaning to it. I also think it’s cool that Ledger dug her haircut, because more straight guys need to recognize that short hair can be really sexy on the right woman.

Here’s the other photo that’s been released:

Some men totally dig short haired ladies! One of my friends explained to me that he prefers short hair because he thinks the nape of a woman’s neck is really attractive .
