Gallery: 10 Celebrities Who Did The Master Cleanse And Lived To Tell About It

This week is Crash Diet week at TheGloss, which means we’re inviting readers to share their experiences with punishing, stupid diets for all that minimal, short term weight loss.

One of the most popular crash diets in the world of celebrities, models and health nuts is the Master Cleanse, a week or two of subsisting on a spicy concoction of maple syrup-based lemonade. Beyonce famously did it to shed the weight for Dreamgirls, Jared Leto did, too, to drop his Number 27 lbs. We’ve had lots of friends try the cleanse–sometimes called “the lemonade diet”–and although everyone reports that it’s nice to reset your sugar cravings and regain a little self-control… none of them were very pleasant to be around. Here’s some famous people who’ve lost a lot of weight and maybe a little humanity on the Master Cleanse.

I’m doing a cleanse in January. It’s not this cleanse though, it’s an organic juice cleanse called Cooler Cleanse (coolercleanse [dot] com). It’s 3 days (there is also a 5 day option) and they send you (or you pick up if you are in NYC) a supply of juices. You drink 6 each day in a specific order. I haven’t been on it yet, but I know friends who have who say they feel awesome after, but just want to eat burgers and tacos during it. Since I eat burgers and tacos, cupcakes and coffee pretty much as my usual daily diet, I figured it was time to jump start my system into eating healthier.
