Congressman Says Michelle Obama Has A ‘Large Posterior’

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) is in hot water this week for making a shockingly stupid comment about First Lady Michelle Obama‘s body. Sensenbrenner was overheard on the phone saying:

“She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.”

This is stupid for so, so much reasons. First of all, Michelle Obama is in amazing shape. Second, a quick perusal of the CDC’s page on childhood obesity will remind you of the terrifying future we’re hurtling toward and that lecturing doesn’t seem so bad by comparison. Third, Michelle Obama’s natural body type has little to do with what she eats, whether it’s big or not. Fourth, who the fuck says “posterior”?

You may remember that class act Rush Limbaugh pulled this same shit in February, unsurprisingly taking it to a much more repulsive degree, “The problem is, and dare I say this, it doesn’t look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice…I’m trying to say that our First Lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you.” Because swimsuit models are the healthiest people in the world.

Whether or not you agree with Michelle’s campaigning for better nutrition, it’s completely inappropriate to disparage her for having a “large” anything. Fortunately, Rep. Sensenbrenner’s spokesperson has responded to the Daily Mail‘s post on the subject with an apology:

“Mr. Sensenbrenner was referring to the First Lady’s healthy food initiative. He doesn’t think the government should be telling Americans what to eat. While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the First Lady’s office to apologize for his comments.”

Let’s stop doing this, please.

What’s Sensenbrenner doing looking so closely?

Maybe he needs to pay as much attention to why Scott Walker is being recalled rather than leering over the First Lady’s posterior.

Holy sh*t this is literally the least appropriate thing I have ever read, ever. What a ridiculous thing to say in every respect. When is he up for reelection?

    • Jen

      So. Gross.

Not only is it vaguely racist, but HAVE YOU SEEN THIS GUY. He is the LAST person who should be talking about anyone else’s “large posterior.”

I guess Jim doesn’t like anyone to tell him to eat his veggies. lol

POLL: Is it hypocritical of Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner to call Michelle Obama’s ass fat?

So he is upset because she is trying to make us healthier? Who elected this guy?

What is he thinking and where does he live – in a Russian ballet house? The man has no respect for women! He has serious issues.

Judging from the fact that this man has no neck, I’m pretty sure he

…qualifies as overweight, while there is no way that Ms. Obama does. I think this is a perfect example of how weight is intertwined with sexism in our society…dudes can be chubby all they want but women’s weight and appearance is immediately up for public scrutiny. (Sorry for double comment, I hit the enter key by mistake)

Oh, this story makes me so angry! Why do people act like it’s a bad thing that she wants to do her part to decrease childhood obesity?

    • Kate

I don’t think the government regulations should be imposed on what americans choose to consume, but this comment is so inappropriate. Even if Obama was in terrible shape (she isn’t), she’s still concerned enough to lead this movement.

Maybe Rep. Sensenbrenner should consider being a part of Michelle Obama’s healthy initiative, looks like he’s been skipping his veggies for a while now… I can’t believe two obviously obese, unhealthy men like Sensenbrenner and Limbaugh have the stones to call a beautiful, healthy woman like Michelle Obama “large” in any way. It makes me hate Rush Limbaugh even more than I already do.
