Our First Glimpse Of Jason Wu For Target

We try not to get our hopes up too much for usually over-hyped, predictably low-quality masstige collections but… we’re looking forward to whatever Jason Wu has up his sleeve for Target. The New York Times has a detailed first look of the hotly anticipated collaboration–which was only announced a few months ago–along with a little more information about its inspiration and aesthetic:

The capsule, Wu’s first in collaboration with a mass retailer, possesses a lot of the label’s familiar, feminine spirit but takes more direct inspiration from French New Wave films and the actress Jean Seberg (Ed. Note: Looks like she’s having a moment). Pleated frocks with sailor-striped hemlines, dainty silk blouses with neck ties and collars, and sportier knits and tennis skirts stand out as some of the line’s most wearable pieces. “My goal was not to duplicate anything from my main collection,” Wu says. “Instead I designed completely new clothes and accessories that reflect my taste and have a voice of their own.”

We’d say that pretty poplin dress is a good sign (at $40, no less). The collection hits Target stores in February.
