Gallery: Michelle Williams As Marilyn Monroe In GQ

Will magazines ever get tired of styling young Hollywood actresses as Marilyn Monroe? Doubtful. But Michelle Williams just got done playing the doomed starlet in a movie, so GQ gets a pass this time. Is it just me or does Williams look uncomfortable in many of the shots? Maybe she’s channeling Marilyn’s bad mojo, or maybe she’s thinking about the things she said to the GQ writer about not wanting sexiness to be the main attribute for which she’s known:

“I wouldn’t say that that would be one of my first qualities as a human being – being sexy. And I think because my character on Dawson’s Creek was sexy… sexualized… sexual… I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly.”

This is a completely reasonable thing to say, but I don’t think Williams is in much danger of being reduced thusly at this point, as she’s widely acknowledged to be one of the most talented actresses of her generation. I see at least one statue in her future.

I’ve never cared for Marilyn Monroe..there I said it! And, I also greatly dislike the lack of originality people have when they pose as her (hello, Lindsay Lohan). But she made a movie about her so she’s cool….and WOW I absolutely love her body!

In agreement with Cee on all points. :)

Her body looks like it was Photoshopped with a much more aggressive tool than her face. They’ve got totally different skin tones/finishes.

I love Marilyn & always have but the constant making of films about her “life”, or parts of it should’ve stopped long ago. As for this cover, I think it’s a bit much. Nothing against Michelle, I hear she does a great job in the film & some of the clips I’ve seen have positively surprised me, but she did take a year to prepare so should she have a wiggle & a giggle down in that timeframe? Absolutely. But she looks nothing like Marilyn and posing in scantily clad underwear just further proves that point. She should’ve donned some pencil skirts and tight sweaters instead- less badly implemented photoshop would’ve been required.
