Demi Moore Allegedly Hospitalized For Eating Disorder

Former Ann Taylor face Demi Moore was hospitalized Monday after an emergency call. TMZ says Moore has issues with substance abuse. However, several outlets say she is absolutely being treated for anorexia nervosa.

Moore’s dramatic weight loss has been the target of much eating disorder speculation in recent months, with all the obligatory Daily Mail headlines that accompany such things. Only time will tell, as Moore’s reps are citing celebrity tried-and-true, exhaustion:

“Because of the stresses in her life right now, Demi has chosen to seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health.  She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends.”

On an eerie note, Harper’s Bazaar asked Moore about body acceptance last month and she said, “I think I sit today in a place of greater acceptance of my body, and that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you age to now experiencing my body as extremely thin — thin in a way that I never imagined somebody would be saying to me, “You’re too thin, and you don’t look good.”

It is worth noting that the word “anorexia” is commonly used out of context when discussing “anorexia nervosa”.

Anorexia by itself is a medical term for loss of appetite.

While I agree that Demi has gotten far too thin, I can understand how this could happen considering the stresses she’s probably been under with the end of her relationship with Ashton Kutcher and so on.

I feel it’s slightly irresponsible to jump to the conclusion that she has an eating disorder in the true, psychiatric meaning of the term. Whatever the case, I sympathise with Demi and wish her well, I hope she gets through this tough time.
