Poll: Do You Want To Know What The Heroes Of Your Youth Look Like Now?

Here’s some full disclosure for your Monday morning: when I was a kid, I used to sit and listen to the “Annie” soundtrack for hours. There is photographic evidence — although it’s not available online, thank God — and there is also, somewhere in my parents’ house, an album cover decorated with the doodlings of a two-year-old. (Just so we’re all on the same page here, that two-year-old was me, and that album cover was “Annie.”)

I haven’t thought much about “Annie” since I was about five, but today I went over to TMZ and lo and behold, there’s a picture of the girl featured at right, the girl who, throughout my youth, was synonymous with the possibility of being adopted by an extremely wealthy bald man and getting a dog, as well as the opportunity to belt out showtunes and have a built-in chorus of back-up singers in the form of support staff for the mansion you now live in.

A lot of things about my life are just now falling into place for me.

Anyway, my point here is that the post is about that little girl who played “Annie,” and who she grew up to be. I almost didn’t click on it, because what if she turned out to be some really depressing, wrinkly, drunk smoker with a bad mug shot who ultimately did a stint on “Celebrity Rehab”? But I clicked anyway, and it turned out that little orphan Annie grew up to become this lovely woman:

What a nice surprise! But let’s acknowledge that it was a gamble. So I’m wondering, would you have done the same? Or would you have resisted the urge to click in order to preserve one of your most sacred childhood memories?

Sorry! This poll is now closed.

She sang “Tomorrow” at my college graduation from Monmouth University a few years ago, because that was where the movie was filmed. She’s adorable in person, and she still has a great voice!
