Poll: What Do You Think About Valentine’s Day Marriage Proposals?

When my friend Lyndsay told me last year that her now-husband proposed to her on Valentine’s Day, I all but laughed. Cheesy, right? Well, I thought so, but I’ve never celebrated a Valentine’s Day in my life, so who am I to say anything?

Until that moment when she announced such craziness (or rather what I regard as ‘craziness’) I thought the only people who got engaged on Valentine’s Day were characters in really bad romantic comedies. I also thought that no wants to be a character in a really bad romcom. Or maybe some people do? Like I said, I’m not really into the whole thing because with a heart as black as mine, it’s difficult to be concerned with anything that celebrates the L-word.

However, getting engaged on the big V-Day seems to be more common than I thought. Although I’m not sure why, I just read an entire article on how to propose on Valentine’s Day. Between tips on how to pull it off without a hitch as well as creative ideas on themes and technique, I was completely dumbfounded that I had not only stumbled upon this guide, but that it exists and there were probably men reading it and taking notes.

Tell me your thoughts on the subject. I’d like to think I’m not the only black heart out there.

Sorry! This poll is now closed.

I want my girlfriend to propose to me using the Pizza Hut proposal package, on Valentines Day at 2:14!

We got engaged on Valentine’s, even though we’re not at all Valentine’s people. That was the day the ring he ordered arrived! So we had wine and pizza and he popped the question. Then we watched 30 Rock. It actually was the most romantic ever.

I think a marriage proposal would be quiet sweet on valentines day as it is the day of love and excitement! Although it could be an easy way for the guy to remember the day!

2/14 is the one day I really let my freak flag fly – I effing love hearts, lace, and romance for ONE DAY of the year. So my future fiance would be a very smart man to propose on this day.

Oh God no; my boyfriend who I live with, and have talked about our getting married down the road as a given- knows better than to propose on my birthday, Christmas, New Years Eve, our anniversary or Valentine’s Day. Considering how it is a known thing, I’m not sure how to do it, but not on any of those damn days for certain.

Feb 14 is my birthday. I *hate* it when people “steal” my birthday for romantic stuff…I want to act like a petulant toddler and scream and shout!

I think it’s cliched and trite to propose on Valentine’s Day. It’s almost as bad as Christmas. Men do it to get out of buying another present (I have trained my fiance – who proposed in May – that I need two presents/cards, he doesn’t get out of that just because it’s my birthday)

I say do it!! A proposal on Valentines Day would be so romantic and special!

I would say being proposed to on Valentines Day is a cop out as the guy would have it all so easy as the day is already romantic and the guy would also remember the day easily! Some women would love this but for me personally I wouldnt like it!

Maybe a Valentine’s Day proposal is sweet and romantic for your average girl but my birthday is on Valentine’s Day and the LAST thing I want is to have to share my engagement anniversary with Valentine’s Day *and* my birthday! So that’s a huge no-go in my book! I would probably say no to proposing on any holiday – it’s like leeching off the holiday and that’s not romantic and screams unthoughtful! That’s just my opinion, though.
