On Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show tomorrow, a few of the moms from “Toddlers and Tiaras” will get pageant-style makeovers. And guess who’s going to be part of it? Everyone’s favorite toddler, Alana — a.k.a. “Honey Boo-Boo Child.”
I know that we’re supposed to find the whole toddler pageant thing appalling, and for the most part, I do. But then I see a girl like Alana, and I can’t help but think that amidst the rest of the dolled up children whose lives are being ruined, whose self-esteem is being destroyed and who are internalizing every single horrifically damaging message about their value and their physical appearance, there are one or two Alanas, who genuinely enjoy their pageant involvement. Not only that, but it seems to me that miraculously, the message Alana is learning is to love her body (i.e.: “the judges don’t know a good thing when they see it!”).
Besides, check her out in this promotional photo for the Anderson show. Alana doesn’t give a fuuuuuck!
