After almost seven years of enormous achievement, the great Raf Simons is leaving the house of Jil Sander, according to a joint statement issued by the Jil Sander Group and Simons.
The Fall 2012 collection will walk on Saturday and Simons will step down on Monday. A successor will be announced shortly. Simons did not indicate his next step.
Rumors have circulated for some time that Simons may succeed disgraced former Christian Dior creative director, John Galliano. Simons’ had been a fixture of that particular rumor mill–much like Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Alber Elbaz and Haider Ackermann–but the news of his departure make him the clear frontrunner.
