The Doonesbury Abortion Comic Newspapers Couldn’t Run

At least, not on the comics page. A series of newspapers moved this over to the Op-ed section, given the nature of the topic, while others, like The Kansas Star, have opted not to run it at all. Doonesbury creator Gary Trudeau is understandably upset, and claims that  “I write the strip to be read, not removed.”

Maybe this level of shock make sense if this were Peanuts, but doesn’t Doonesbury consistently satirize hot button topics? Like, say, abortion, and personhood laws – which are in the news all the time right now? To me, this seems very much in their wheelhouse. Do you find it shocking? Would it bother you to see this in the funnies?

This is awesome! I both lol’d and was politically provoked at the same time.

I actually think it’s a good thing if it goes in the Op-Ed section, because then maybe more people will see it, ie, people that don’t necessarily look at the funnies.
